As an entrepreneur moving at a quick pace, and hydration must be a priority throughout your day. Don’t underestimate or misunderstand the importance of water to your health and well-being. The evidence-based reasons to drink enough water each day are many. Hydrate! Sip on that H2O like a boss!
Stay hydrated, stay fabulous!
You know water is vital to your health. Remind yourself that it plays a key role in many of your body’s functions so drinking throughout each day becomes routine.
Don’t pass up that water bottle. Keep it with you. Keep refilling it.
Remember your body can’t store water, so you need fresh supplies every day to make up for losses you expel in various forms. Your body is made up of 50 to 75% water!
75% of the human brain is water and 75% of a living tree is water.
A person can live about a month without food, but about a week without water.
This is why it is said, “water is life,” because it is necessary to our survival.
Where does our drinking water come from?
Water facts:
- Water is composed of two elements, Hydrogen and Oxygen. 2 Hydrogen + 1 Oxygen = H2O.
- Oxygen is the most abundant element on earth, and where hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe it is the third most abundant element on the Earth’s surface. (after oxygen and silicon)
- Water covers about 71 percent of the Earth.
- 96.5 percent of that is ocean water.
- There is the same amount of water on Earth as there was when the Earth was formed.
And there’s more…the water from your faucet could actually contain molecules that dinosaurs drank!
However:
- Nearly 97% of the world’s water is salty or otherwise undrinkable.
- Another 2% is locked in ice caps and glaciers.
- That leaves just 1% for all of humanity’s needs — all its agricultural, residential, manufacturing, community, and personal needs.
Water may be in great supply, but that 1% is precious.
Water is part of a deeply interconnected system. What we pour on the ground or send into the sky ends up in our earth’s supply of water.
How much water should you drink?
The Eatwell Guide’s official recommendation that people should aim to drink 6 to 8 cups or glasses of fluid a day.
If you don’t count in cups, as basic rule, proper hydration includes drinking small amounts of water throughout the day, to equal an average of 2-3 liters of water per day for the average person. Heat and strenuous exercise may require you to drink more.
Getting enough water a day is critically important to an entrepreneur’s overall health. It’s not just about thirst.
Is any fluid the same as water intake? Is it just as good?
“Clear mind, clear water.”
Is it just an Instagram caption? Or is it fact-based?
Is plain water best?
- As recommendations go, water, lower-fat milk, and sugar-free drinks, including tea, coffee, and juice all count.
- If you are exercising heavily or otherwise losing water through sweat, a sports drink may be helpful. The water content plus added carbohydrates and electrolytes can increase your energy and help your body absorb water.
The many health benefits of drinking water!
1.) Forms the basis of blood, digestive juices, urine, and perspiration.
2.) Water is vital for the brain’s function, and it increases our ability to stay mentally focused. Even mild dehydration on a short-term basis increases short-term memory issues, reduces energy, impairs your mood, and reduces focus and concentration. Long-term dehydration can actually even shrink your brain cells’ size and mass, resulting in cognitive decline.
3.) It cushions the brain, spinal cord, and other sensitive tissues.
4.) Water also protects body organs and tissues.
5.) Water dissolves minerals and nutrients, then flushes out body waste products, helping with constipation, and water may help prevent kidney stones.
6.) Water can help regulates body temperature. Sweat is our body’s release of water to the surface of our skin when our body is too hot. When that water evaporates, it cools down our bodies and prevents us from overheating.
7.) Moistens tissues in the eyes, nose, and mouth.
8.) It creates our saliva and mucus, and is found in muscle, fat, and bones.
9.) Maintains your digestive system: Water helps break down the food we eat, promotes good bowel health, and prevents constipation. Proper hydration also helps keeps the stomach in good working order.
10.) This beverage delivers nutrients and oxygen to cells.
11.) When you are properly hydrated your body creates a gel that lubricates joints in our knees, elbows, shoulders. This gel-like fluid creates a cushion that prevents your joint bones from rubbing together.
12.) It helps maintain blood pressure.
Lucky 13.) drinking water improves your blood circulation too. Your circulation is the mechanism by which oxygen and nutrients are delivered to every part of your body.
“Water is critical to cellular function, chemical reactions, and thermal regulation.” ~ per NASA
Drink more water. Hydrate!
14.) Our airways need it.
15.) Daily water intake boosts skin health. Drinking water is also important for the look of your skin: dehydrated skin can be cracked and dry. Well-hydrated skin is much more smooth, soft, and clean.
16.) Water on the inside and on the outside helps. Misting your face hydrates your skin, and water can help reduce or eliminate wrinkles, and helps keep pores open.
What else?
17.) An honorable mention goes to curbing your appetite!
Make water your go-to elixir of life.
How else? Beyond fluid intake described above, the list of water benefits continues.
18.) Indoor humidity regulation helps lubricate our nasal passages and airways, helping us breathe. Hydrating our skin significantly reduces your likelihood of contracting a respiratory infection. ‘And back to our airways needing it. When our air is too dry, our airways dry up and become irritated. This benefit helps those with asthma.
19.) Water warmed into steam helps when we are ill. Steam loosens mucus in our sinuses and lungs. It helps with congestion, eases your sore throat, and improves hoarseness.
20.) Water cleanses!
- Our bodies
- Our homes – bath shower sink
- Outside – flushes toxin
- Sounds – rain, waves, brook
- Our souls when it is deemed holy, and we are baptized in it.
21.) Fills our ponds, lakes, and fish tanks.
22.) Waters plants allowing them to grow and us to maintain our food sources.
23.) Consider those same bodily functions for wildlife.
24.) Water regulates the Earth’s temperature.
25.) Water is an incredibly powerful natural force, so powerful it can shape the land around us.
We could go on, yes.
~ Ocean currents help warm and cool different regions of the earth, making many of them inhabitable.
~ Evaporation from warm seas can fall as rain or snow across the globe, sustaining life on land.
~ For us humans, water is not simply a vital need for our bodies, it is also a resource we benefit from every day
“Water is powerful. It can wash away earth, put out fire, and even destroy iron.” ~ Arthur Golden
“The wise leader is like water. Consider water: water cleanses and refreshes all creatures without distinction and without judgment; water freely and fearlessly goes deep beneath the surface of things; water is fluid and responsive; water follows the law freely.” ~ John Heider
